My views on the Academic writing zooms

Hello everyone hope everyone's M3 work is coming along nicely 

Having just caught up with both the Academic writing zooms i found them both so interesting they were both held by Peter Thomas who made some really interesting point of reflection for myself with writing my essay. 

His point which he made about academic writing I found very helpful and interesting they included when you read a piece of text you should pick out the most important parts and highlight them however then you should ask yourself why have I picked out these parts ? why are they important ? which I found interesting because as an author I don't have that mindset , I usually get very overwhelmed and panic about the text then having to reread a few times over so then I feel I understand what this text is about ! Also another good point made when you come across a word in the piece of text that you are reading make sure you look it up and make sure you fully understand the words and what it means and how you can include this word inn your essay ! and maybe even put it in your glossary for future reference. 
Another point about essay writing that I hope to include in my own essay, using PEE which i used for English at school i had totally forgotten about this methods i feel this is such a good method to get structure within your essay , I definitely know that i work much better when there is a structure to my essay then I feel I know where I am up to within my work.
when starting my essay hopefully today I will go into it using the mindset off PEE - point, evidence, explanation 
My last learning point i would like to share is when you have your own ideas you should always right then down, maybe in a mind map, diagram, voice noting them down, using these methods to generate your ideas makes further ideas spring into your head . When doing a free writing exercise within this zoom having further ideas creates new ideas which then keeps the flow moving creating a strong end product 

I really found both the academic writing zooms very interesting and very refreshing to my mindset with approaching essays, i will definitely  be taking my points i have made into consideration and i will have new approaches to writing my essay for M3

    Hi Olivia, I missed the zooms but after reading your blog I feel like I am all up to date! I also panic when having to read academic writing but picking out the points that seem interesting me then reflecting on them does help! I look forward to your next blog! Best Chloe

    Hi Olivia I top missed these skypes and haven't had time to watch them yet but I too had forgotten about PEE and this has been a great reminder thank you!

    Hi Olivia,
    Yes i found the one i attended very helpful, and i didn't do A level english, or maybe im just too old but id never heard of PEE! so this part was great to hear when i was on the call. And i think ill give my self a large sticky note on the computer to make sure i use it. x

 Thursday 29th April  Hey guys  what a module? anyone else feel this? we are so nearly finished this module 2 its nearly the final hand in date not long now thank god! Hope everyone is feeling ok with module 2. I must admit i am feeling so much better now that this modue is coming to an end i final feel set on all my work however i am still going with correction but also i have forgot to fill in the consent form, need to get on with it haha.  some tips Sam gave me was make sure you have a reasonable amount of literature it is OK for dates to be like 2013 but it would be helpful to have some literature up to date so current literature so it correlates with your chosen research question also  i have found that comment most helpful. Sam also said make sure you don just use articles to use books and blogs, make sure you can gather as much information as possible then you will have a stronger data collection. were nearly there girls and guys lets keep going and smash...

 Struggling is an understatement  Having just caught up with the module 3 focus zoom which was a week ago i am completely overwhelmed i feel others are much further in the process then myself which has got me panicking, Helen spoke about having themes in our essay this is when i started to panic i have only written my introduction and my literature review. Then i read another M3 blog she says shes been told the literature is not just one block paragraph it needs to be incorporated throughout my essay which i was worried because i thought i would have to start again. Helens advice was to step back and take a breathe, taking a moment to gathering your thoughts together, she said we have all got so much information however in order to place it in the correct ways we need to step back... i found this so helpful because i was tying to write my essay as fast as possible all guns blazing however i found myself stressing out more and more which left me not being able to write anything...
